How do intake manifold spacers work

Interesting thing is that it didn't pick up torque down low - the power curve was just a bit steeper and smothly pulled more power to peak where the full 12kw was. So - why the fuck did making them longer make so much difference, and why was the difference at the top and not the at the bottom??? Suitable for all variants of 1FZ-FE. Tags: None. Firstly it helps prevent heat transfer into the mainfold which keeps the intake charge cooler and secondly you have increased the length of your intake runners.

Comment Post Cancel. Longer runners should affect the low end more than top end, unless the manifold is "wrong" for packaging reasons or cost or something. I know that a portion of it due to insulation - but that should only be a few hp, not close to 20 crank hp. Dunno on the AFR yet - we did log it, but I haven't got the charts yet. I do reckon there will be AFR changes - the afrs change on these noticeably when you change a muffler. Something that indicates it's got something to do with the mechanics of the inlet air flow more than ECU adjustments - adding a piggyback to these and leaning on the tune gives less than 7kw.

I find that a staggering number for the mod. Easy to get power out of these things apparently. Throw a new exhaust on it piss off the stock cats , and throw a set of cams in it, tune and hey presto, kw at the wheels. Since you didnt port match them to the top section manifold but I assume did match them to the bottom manifold? Might be getting a better air fuel mix as a result of a cleaner airflow near the injector entry point.

Did you test it on Steve Knight's dyno? BTW Dave Meaker would be interested in this! I don't care a damn for your loyalty when you think I am right; when I really want it most is when you think I am wrong. Sir John Monash. Yeah - dyno charts coming. The same correction was used, weather was very similar. Still to do is actually run it, pull the spacers out and then run it again with a gap of only a few minutes.

It just so happens that Throttle Body Spacers, such as those offered by aFe , are designed to do exactly that. When the throttle is closed or anything less than Wide-Open-Throttle, that thing in the intake just creates an obstruction and actually robs you of power.

Reality 2 : Lengthening the intake manifold or lengthening the intake runners will improve power, torque and fuel economy. These gains and a more efficient fuel burn can yield a slight improvement of mpg on many applications. What is happening and how does it work? When the intake valve of the cylinder head opens, air is being sucked into the engine, so air in the intake runner is drawn in rapidly toward the cylinder.

When the intake valve closes suddenly, this air slams to a stop and stacks up on itself, forming an area of high pressure. This high-pressure wave makes its way up the intake runner away from the cylinder. Pingbacks are On. Refbacks are On. Forum Rules. All times are GMT The time now is PM. Add Thread to del. User Name.
